Hanako and Roger’s Wedding

Cuando hace unas semanas vi las fotos de la boda de Hanako y Roger , no pude resistir la tentación de haceros a todos participes. Ambos han aceptado encantados compartir con nosotros su gran dia, que podemos ver gracias a las fotografías que nos ha cedido su fotógrafo, Kevin Scott Wood, que ha sabido capturar cada instante de esta boda con elegancia y naturalidad.

When a few weeks ago, I saw the wedding photos of Hanako and Roger, I could not resist to make everyone a participant here in Beautiful Blue Brides. Both Hanako and Roger have kindly accepted to share with us their big day, which we can enjoy through Kevin Scott Wood’s photographs, who has been able to capture every moment of this wedding tastefully with elegance and ease.

Hanako, compañera de universidad también fue mi flat-mate junto con Bea durante dos años en un pequeño pueblo llamado Newent en los Cotswold (UK). Poco podiamos hacer en un pueblo tan bonito pero sumamente aburrido, excepto quedarnos hablando y riéndonos hasta altas horas de la madrugada. Muchos años han pasado ya desde el college pero el pasado 26 de agosto nos reunimos una vez más, esta vez para celebrar la boda de Hanako y Roger en Suffolk. Una de las bodas más bonitas a las que he asistido donde no faltaba ni un solo detalle.

Hanako, was not only my college companion but also my flat-mate together with Bea for two years in Newent a small town in the Cotswold (UK). There was little to do in this small town, so our main entertainment was to chat and laugh until late at night. Many years have passed from the college days, but last August 26 we met once again, this time to celebrate the wedding of Hanako and Roger in Suffolk. One of the nicest weddings I have attended where not even a single detail was forgotten.

Hanako y Roger se conocieron en Newmarket donde ambos trabajan en la cría del purasangre inglés. Despues de varios años de romance y algunas clases de japonés, Roger voló junto con Hanako a Japón el pasado noviembre para pedirle la mano a Kazuo Sonobe , el padre de Hanako en japonés. Después comenzarón todos los preparativos para una boda perfecta, que gracias a las damas de honor Yoko la hermana de Hanako, Mami Takezaki la mejor amiga de Hana de Japón y Bea, nuestra querida compañera de piso sevillana fue todo un éxito.

La ceremonia civil, que tuvo lugar a primera hora de la mañana, fue una ceremonia íntima y familiar donde Hanako iba vestida de Kimono. Un kimono que le regaló Mrs Fumiko Odagiri’s, una amiga intima de la familia Sonobe. Tradicionalmente los kimonos en Japón se pasan de generación en generación. Como Fumiko no tiene hijos, para Hanako fue un honor llevar este kimono ese día. Hanako nos explicó después, que el kimono al ser de manga larga solo lo pueden llevar las mujeres solteras, asi que fue el primer y el último día en el que se le permitió usar ese tipo de kimono.

Hanako and Roger met in Newmarket where they both work breeding and training thoroughbreds. After several years of romance and a few Japanese lessons, Roger flew together with Hanako last November to Japan to pop the big question in Japanese to Hanako’s father Mr.Kazuo Sonobe. Later commenced all the preparations for the perfect wedding, which thanks to the bridesmaids Yoko Sonobe Hanako’s sister, Mami Takezaki Hana’s best friend from Japan and Bea our dear Sevillian flat mate was a great success.

The civil ceremony which took place in the morning, was an intimate and family ceremony. Hanako dressed in a Kimono, given to her by Mrs Fumiko Odagiri a close friend of the Sonobe family. Traditionally the kimonos in Japan are passed from generation to generation, however as Fumiko does not have children of her own it was an honour for Hanako to wear this kimono on her special day. Later Hanako explained to us that kimonos with long sleeves can only be worn by single women, so that day would be the first and the last time she would be allowed to wear this type of kimono.

A las 3, comenzó la ceremonia religiosa con el resto de los invitados en la pequeña capilla de Hengrave Hall. Esta hermosa capilla la decoraron con velas y flores silvestres, poco después se inundó de pétalos de rosa a la salida de los novios gracias a la pequeña Isabella, la ahijada de Roger, que nos enternecio a todos con su gran cesta de flores y sus enormes rizos dorados.

At 3 p.m the religious ceremony started with the rest of the guests in Hengrave Hall’s small chapel. The chapel was beautifully decorated with candles and wild flowers, and later flooded with rose petals thanks to Isabella, the goddaughter of Roger, who touched us tenderly with her big basket of flowers and her beautiful golden curls.

La cena y el cocktail tuvieron lugar en los salones de Hengrave Hall. Al entrar llamaba la atención como habían cuidado hasta el último detalle, desde el wishtree con los nombres y fotos de los invitados hasta las mesas con las flores y detalles a juego con la tarta nupcial. Durante la cena, como en toda boda anglosajona no faltarón los discursos y la carcajadas, aunque en esta boda nos sorprendieron los discursos en japonés de Roger y su padre, y los discursos en inglés de la familia de Hanako.

The dinner and the cocktail took place in Hengrave Hall’s lounges. On entering our attention was attracted to all the details, from the wish tree with the names and photos of the guests, to the reception tables with flowers and complements matching the wedding cake. During the dinner,there was no shortage of speeches and laughter, however to our surprise Roger and his father made speeches in Japanese while Hanako’s family made their speeches in English. We were all extremely impressed!

«Let there be love» the Nat king Cole, fue su canción y un auténtico a cierto. Aunque ellos nos han confesado que las clases de baile ese día no dieron su fruto, a mi personalmente casi se me saltaron las lágrimas.

» Let there be love » by Nat King Cole, was a perfect choice for their first dance. Although Hanako and Roger have confessed it did not go exactly as planned after their dancing lessons, we all believe they did a great job, bringing tears to my eyes and a close to a lovely day.
